Safe Food Handling Recommendations

Any dry or kibble type pet food should be kept in a cool, dark location and should be up off of the floor in case of rodents or water leakage.  Keeping Royal Canin food in its original bag is recommended and also goes for any food that comes in a resealable bag.    The excess air can also be removed before resealing the bag to help keep the food fresher in between feedings.  Using a plastic secondary container is NOT recommended as it can absorb the fats and proteins of the food and lead to spoilage.  If you do transfer your pet’s food to a secondary container, keep the UPC and/or lot number from the bag in case there is a food recall of your brand.
